The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is the most visited location at Grand Canyon National Park.
The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile.
The Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon South Rim is the most popular of the hiking trails. It is not unusual to have hundreds of hikers on the trail during peak season. The trail head is located just west of Bright Angel Lodge in Grand Canyon Village and begins at the Mule Stone Corral.
The Bright Angel Trail originates at Grand Canyon Village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, descending 4380 feet to the Colorado River. It has an average grade of 10% along its entire length.

Horses may be iconic to the American West, but the equine of choice at Grand Canyon has long been its hybrid relative, the mule. These animals combine the sure-footedness of a burro with the larger size and strength of a horse, and have been carrying canyon visitors since the late 1800’s. More than 600,000 people have taken Grand Canyon mule rides since they were first offered in 1887.
